Item hardness

Explanation

In item analysis, the hardness of an item is computed as the proportion of candidates giving an incorrect response to that item. This proportion is typically called q, while its complement, item easiness, is called p. The following equations regarding q and p are true:

wherein σ2 is item variance, σ is item standard deviation, and the item is scored 0 or 1 for wrong or right.
