Range

Explanation

The range is the difference between the highest and the lowest score in the sample. Sometimes, this value is increased by 1 to express the number of possible values that fall within the range. This "+ 1" method is meaningful for discrete scales, especially scales that are both discrete and non-linear. Raw scores on psychological tests are mostly of this discrete, non-linear nature.
